This is for the 1 hour "Bear river" flight. Your flight will depart from TSP (the Secret Place) near the town of Wheatland California. We will launch and go direct to the scenic Bear river. Upon arrival to the river, we descend down to an altitude of less than 20 feet! The first leg of our flight takes us 7 miles through some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable. Bald eagles, deer, turkey and beaver are part of the natural habitat we see every flight.
The second leg of our flight takes us to the banks of Camp Far West lake. In September of 1849 The US government established a military post where the lake now stands. The remnants of the base no longer exist however the history remains. It was occupied
by a detachment of the Second United States
Infantry. At that time it was farthest west military post and played a large part in forming what is now known as Beale Air Force base.
After flying the banks of the lake we will climb up to about 1000 feet and head north into the foothills that form the backdrop of our valley. The foothills hide a little known set of water falls known as Beale falls. The falls consist of two 60 foot waterfalls that are only accessible by foot and of course by air!
After viewing the falls we return toward TSP (our runway) and see the remnants of Johnson's crossing, this was the first settlement reached west of the Sierra and the last
stop on the Overland Emigrant Trail. Used as a camping spot for the
pioneers, departure spot for miners and a sojourning place for trappers,
herdsmen, and adventurers. The rescue party for the Donner Party was organized and departed from this crossing on February 5, 1847. From the air you can still make out the wagon tracks!
The final leg of our flight puts us at an altitude of 1600-4000 feet (depends on the day of the week) where we will turn off the motor and fly in total silence for the remainder of the flight. During your flight you will have the option to control the glider, sit back and relax, and of course take pictures! Blue Skies!
